KAIZER Chiefs senior player Willard Katsande has admitted that the team members did not always pull in the same direction as Amakhosi pick up the pieces and begin life post the Gavin Hunt era.
Chiefs go into their penultimate match of what has been a substandard Premiership season against Lamontville Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium on Wednesday on the back of a dreadful run of 10 league games in which they won just two matches.
They have lost matches against bottom clubs Black Leopards‚ Chippa United‚ Maritzburg United and Tshakuma FC‚ and drew against Stellenbosch.
Their only wins during that awful run came against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates and champions Mamelodi Sundowns in March and April.
Regardless of how Kaizer Chiefs perform in their two remaining DStv Premiership games, they are guaranteed to end the season with their lowest-ever points tally in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era.
After 28 games Amakhosi are on 30 points on the league table. Even if they manage to win those two remaining games, they would finish on 36 points. It would be a new club record for the least number of points accumulated in a PSL season.
As recently as the 2018/2019 season the Glamour Boys finished outside of the top eight, collecting a measly 39 points during that campaign. That marked their lowest points haul in a season at the time.
Former Orlando Pirates star Joseph Makhanya believes Kaizer Chiefs will not be much of a changed side by appointing Stuart Baxter as coach because his philosophy is similar to Gavin Hunt’s.
This comes as Gavin Hunt was sacked on Friday night. While the Amakhosi are 11th in the standings with two rounds remaining, Hunt's axing came as a surprise, especially.
