Lafayette school employees thanked for work during extraordinarily tough year

School employees across Lafayette Parish received a special treat when they arrived to work early Friday morning. While coffee and donuts were a nice surprise, the goodie bags of bluetooth headphones and handwritten thank-you notes stole the show. The gifts were made possible through Love Our Schools, a community initiative started in 2019 that works to support the Lafayette Parish School System and everyone it serves. Volunteers from Acadiana nonprofits joined area students and district staff to write notes and stuff bags for three days leading up to Friday s special delivery. Organizers wanted everything to stay a surprise, so S.J. Montgomery Principal Roneka Coleman just sent an email Thursday telling her staff to arrive early the next day.

Local women-owned businesses to visit: Women s History Month | Culture

March is Women’s History Month and a time to celebrate the impact of women on American society and culture throughout history. This year, to celebrate the achievements of women in the Harrisonburg community, consider visiting a local female-owned business. The Shenandoah Valley is full of hidden gems and local favorites, one can find anything from family-owned shops to businesses promoting women’s empowerment and individuality.  First opened in 2012 as a food truck, Grilled Cheese Mania quickly gained a following in the valley. Known by most as the “Grilled Cheese Lady,” Kathleen Mania-Casey has since opened a permanent indoor location on Main Street. The store has an assortment of grilled cheese sandwiches, soups, drinks, dipping sauces and sweets.
