The jury deliberated 12 hours before finding Rashad Dooley guilty of the lesser charges of conspiracy to commit murder and burglary, and attempted robbery, and acquitting him of the most serious charges he faced. Dooley is among four men charged in the 2011 murder of ODU student Christopher Cummings and the first to be convicted.
This case dates back to June 10, 2011. That’s the day Norfolk police found 20-year-old Chris Cummings shot to death in his home near Old Dominion University.
Four men were charged with the murder of Old Dominion University student Christopher Cummings last year. Since then, charges against two of the men have been dismissed. A third man, Javon Doyle, is set for trial Wednesday and the fourth man's is scheduled for Sept. 7.
John Tucker Hardee, 38, was found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2018 death of Harley Williams. The toddler died after being severely burned by scalding hot water and then denied medical treatment for 11 hours.
