Tottenham 1-3 Manchester United: player ratings to the theme of Sesame Street sketches that wouldn’t air today

As a child born in the 1970s and raised in the 1980s, the “golden era” of Sesame Street is a huge part of my upbringing. This was back when it was still uncommon to see a racially integrated cast being nice to people, before people could see Snuffalupagus, and before Mr. Hooper passed away and taught a generation of kids how to grieve.
But as with any show that’s been around for 50 years, times change and our perceptions of what is and is not acceptable to show to kids has also changed. The early years of Sesame Street could actually be described as somewhat edgy and even radical, and there were numerous sketches, films, and movies that were poured into my eyeballs back then that would NEVER fly today. Today, we’re going to look at some of those.
Manchester City 3-0 Tottenham: Player ratings to the theme of Spurs v. City Moments

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have played a whole bunch of games against each other since they both got semi-good to very good. Very few of them have been boring. It hasn’t always been a slugfest both Spurs and City have had some equally thumping wins, and if you’re doing a running tally it’s safe to say that City has been on paper better that Spurs for the majority of the past decade or so. Oil money will do that to a club.
Sheffield 1-3 Tottenham Hotspur: player ratings to the theme of USA state flags

In November of this past year, the State of Mississippi voted overwhelmingly to adopt a new flag to represent their state, replacing one that prominently displayed the Confederate battle flag, which was retired last June. The new flag, which you can see in the header photo of this article, is absolutely
spectacular from a design standpoint, featuring a prominent, stylized magnolia and the words “In God We Trust.”
The last time I did flag ratings on this blog, it was pretty fun and pretty popular. So why not go back go the well? State flags are a good way to extend that fun, because there are some truly great state flags. and some pretty dang awful ones too.
Tottenham 0-2 Leicester: player ratings to the theme of emoji

That sucked. If I could do this entire article with nothing but emoji I probably would, but I can’t. Tottenham Hotspur phoned it in on Sunday, losing 2-0 to Leicester at home in a match that not only wasn’t fun to watch, it was actively agonizing. Leicester scored on a Jamie Vardy penalty kick after Serge Aurier barged over Wesley Fofana at the end of the first half, had another deflect unluckily off of Toby Alderweireld for an own goal, and had another goal called back for a marginal offside call.
Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham: Player ratings to the theme of Pantone Fall/Winter 2020 color swatches

Each year, color specialists Pantone releases a list of color swatches that are meant to both evoke the seasons and also inspire designers that create the high fashion clothing pieces in places like New York, London, and Milan. Colors are neat, and every couple of years I like to return to this well for player ratings themes. I did one of these in 2016 and again in 2018. After a 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur loss to Liverpool on a 90th minute goal that felt like a kick in the teeth, sometimes it’s nice to forget about that feeling and just look at some pretty colors.
