Kanjurmarg dumping yard eats into the habitat of the depleting species found chiefly in the mangroves from Deonar to Thane.
The dumping yard at Kanjurmarg is proving to be a big hindrance to the survival of
golden jackals, which are chiefly found in the mangroves from Deonar to Thane – now rechristened as the
Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park habitat, the golden jackal is the chief mammal of the mangroves. But as their habitat contracts, their numbers are fast dwindling. When they venture into human settlements in search of food, many a time they are knocked down by passing vehicles.
