So today were going to be talking about the wars in korea and vietnam from an environmental history perspective. Many of you are quite well aware of the military side of things, how the wars progressed. But i think its very important for us to think about how nature is impacted by and shaped warfare. These are two very important wars in american history. Not only because korea is considered to be the forgotten war and so many of its veterans feel like it doesnt get talked about enough, but also because it was the first hot war in the cold war in which the United States really did go to war with communist enemies, in this case north korea and the Peoples Volunteer army in china. And because it really does impact our world today. Korea is one of our most important allies, one of our most important trading partners. Our involvement in korea was a very important moment in u. S. History. Of course vietnam is very important for its role in activism and in getting many of the younger people i
Im going to turn it right over to curtis. Im a longtime admirer of curtis white. Published in harpers magazine and on the Editorial Advisory Board is a quarterly and they turned to him for wisdom in darkness which often comes over me and im going to let him begin by explaining. You want him to talk as much as possible and so you can set up the premise of the book and then i have a few stray questions that i will ask you if the silence falls. The coming months. I want to do one more thing. Hot off the press today is the Small Business exchanges periodical featuring Commission President leslie katz. The article goes on and on and on, which is fantastic. Its actually a really, really good article and gives great kudos to the work that the port is doing, meeting and exceeding our mandates for participation by local Business Enterprises and some of the novel ideas that we are piloting such as the pier 33 opportunity. So, thank you very much, president katz, for agreeing to appear so prominently on behalf of the port. And that concludes my remarks. Is there any Public Comment . Good afternoon, commissioners. My name is corin woods [speaker not understood]. I wanted to talk about the two civil grand jury reports which, quite frankly, pissed me off outrageously. I think that one would see the presentation on Sea Level Rise later today, youll be able to see why we missed a lot on whats already existing and whats already happening i

But a far more direct concern to me is the one about the port ~. I think they missed an awfu
