Busan s bid to host the World Expo 2030 is likely to gain greater momentum in 2023, because the central and the city governments, as well as domestic companies, vowed to make all-out efforts until members of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) vote in November to choose the international event s venue among Busan, Saudi Arabia s Riyadh, Italy s Rome and Ukraine s Odessa. Confident about Busan s capability of defeating its competitors, working-level staff representing the government, the city and business community dismissed concerns that it is virtually impossible for Korea s second-largest city to outstrip the oil-rich Middle Eastern country s capital.
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has been collecting money from Korea s top 10 businesses groups, including Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor and LG, to finance a range of activities to help Busan win a bid to host World Expo 2030, according to the country s top business lobby group Wednesday.
Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC) Executive Director Datuk Dexter Lau quashed rumours that he will be representing Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) to contest for the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Lau said his focus remains on KTC and his business.
“My priority is still KTC. As the company’s executive director, my duty is to manage the company well.”
He said this when commenting on a Chinese daily report that he may be fielded as PBS’ candidate for Kota Kinabalu after a networking event between Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Young Entrepreneurs Committee (Sabah branch) and OE Edutech delegation.
Lau said business takes precedence at the moment.
He added that PBS has high-calibre leaders who are capable.
“I believe PBS possesses high-calibre leaders who are capable of taking the helm in politics and governance of Sabah.”
