Minister, E&P companies discuss new bidding rounds, revocation of existing blocks

The government is likely to prioritise the auction of offshore blocks in the upcoming bidding round in order to attract more foreign investors.
In this regard, high-level officials of exploration and production companies met with Energy Minister Omar Ayub on Thursday.
Sources said that Mari Petroleum took up the matter during the meeting. Company representatives suggested to the government to give priority to offshore blocks in the upcoming bidding round as they had great potential for oil and gas reserves.

UAE keen on further investment in Pakistan’s energy sector

ISLAMABAD: United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday expressed interest in furthering investment in Pakistan’s energy sector to improve economic cooperation between the two countries.
UAE Ambassador in Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, during a meeting with Energy Minister Omar Ayub, said the collaboration in energy sector will provide an impetus to bilateral economic ties.
The meeting discussed the ongoing cooperation in the petroleum sector and explored the priority areas of mutual interest in the energy sector.
Separately, Ayub also met Ambassador of Republic of Czech in Pakistan Tomas Smetanka. The Czech Ambassador explored the areas of mutual discussion in energy sector including investment in oil sector and business in liquefied natural gas supply chain for group of Czech companies visiting Pakistan by end of March.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan launched construction work on the Torkham-to-Nowshera portion of the $1.17 billion Central Asia-South Asia Regional Trade and Transmission Project (CASA-1000) on Wednesday.
A virtual launching ceremony was hosted by Dr Bandar Hajjar, president of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and Energy Minister Omar Ayub Khan.
The state-run National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) will undertake construction of a 113-kilometre electricity transmission line from the Pak-Afghan border to Nowshera. The project is to be completed by the end of next year.
