But they say it also revealed a downside to the procedure. The Monticello School district says Police Received a text message indicating a student might bring a gun to the high school yesterday. As a precaution, police were at the school, and students were not allowed in hallways during classes. Parents, if they wanted to, could take their kids out of school for the day. Early yesterday morning, Monticello Police chief britt smith got a message on his phone. It was a notification that someone had sent an anonymous tip about the gun threat to the jones county text to tell system. Once the tipster sends the text, officers can respond asking for more information. But the tipster can end all communication at any time, by simply typing stop. Today is election day, and across eastern iowa voters will choose City Council Members and make other local decisions. One choice for voters. Is if the Cedar Rapids Public Library see additional funds. The library wants voters to approve a levy of 27 cents for one thousand dollars of the assessed taxable valuation of a home. That would cost the owner of a cedar rapids home valued at 150 thousand dollars an extra 23 dollars a year. This levy would raise an estimated onepointsix Million Dollars each year for the library. Board members say if they dont get the funding, the library could close one day a week. Also on the ballot in cedar rapids are those vying for the atlarge and district candidates for city council. Voting officials in Johnson County will be extra watchful during todays city elections. They want to make sure poll watchers are following state law. Johnson county auditor Travis Weipert says hes heard some candidates in University Heights and iowa city will have poll watchers
