joe weekend! there was a lot to talk abou this way let s get right to some of the top stories. we re gonna begin with th new york times reported that the manhattan district attorney s office has signaled two attorneys for former president trump. he could face criminal charges the paper sites for people wit knowledge of the matter. it all stems from th investigation by manhattan da, alvin bragg s office and trump s role of the hush money to adult film actress, storm daniels ahead of the 201 election prosecutors now offered th former president the chance to testify next week before the grand jury, that has bee hearing evidence and the potential case the times reports it would b unusual for a da to notify a potential defendant withou ultimately seeking charges against them, but trump is likely to declined that offe according to the paper, former presidents lawyers also coul meet privately with prosecutor in an attempt to fend of criminal charges two of trump s defense attorney
2024 and former governor hogan join us and now governor hogan, thanks for being here there are a lot of republicans who are hopeful that you would get into the race, that yo represented the style of republicanism and conservatism that they used to know and hop would come back someday. so how did you make th decision not to get in well it was a delicat decision uhm i put a lot of though into it and part of it was you re just discussing there a moment ago i ve been saying for years tha successful politics is about addition and multiplication, not subtraction and division the party has been doing off a lot of subtracting and defie ink. i ve been just the opposite in my approach. i was elected and reelected in a blue state of america, b winning nearly all the republicans and all th independents and a big chunk o democrats by focusing on thing that people cared about an focusing on competency, an common sense that is what s missing i politics today but there s a party that has
sort of going off the rails. and in a different direction it was a crowded field and i d not want to be part of a multi car pileup trying to reach those, what i call the republican wing of the republican party so i didn t really need electe office, and i did not see clear path when you have multiple people trying t margin in the same lane. you said in the past, governor, you still do believe that the party is redeemable that it can return t reagan-ism or the era of maybe george h. w. bush and some government conservatism an everything else that comes wit that how do you see that? if you look at cpac, at the wa that other people like rhond saudis who are in the race, ho they ve been talking about the culture wars, everything else. how do you see this part returning to what you believ it still can be? well, i m hopeful and optimistic that we can although, i m not sure how fas it s going to happen i m going to continue to try t
fight in that direction becaus i think it s important for the party and for the country fo us to have a competitive two party system that debate issues cpac, as you re pointing out it was half empty. most of they serious potential candidates did not attend. people are focused on othe things, but there s no questio that trump and trumpism is a huge chunk of the republican party. but where long ways off. we re having a battle for th heart and soul of the party, and the first primaries ar more than a year away. so we ll see it ll be a long fight and i going to continue to be a voic and continue to be involved in every way i can and help get u back on track. governor, you have said tha you re optimistic about th future of the republican party there s certainly worried abou its president, but speaking of an election just a year or s away, you re not gonna be part of the field, but as you surve it, are or is there a candidat or candidate or to tha represent what you think the
field and let people know what they are about i think there s a whole host o potential people that could do a great job representing us. so, governor, we ll ask you to put your strategist hat o here you re republican party righ now, a huge percentage of it i captivated with the four eve to one particular candidate. and when it comes to candidates, you have probably a majority o mentioned kadary such far wh are captured by the fear o attack on a particular candidate. what do you feel about the people who actually vote right well i think as a cult o personality is not good for th party and it has been a bi part of our problem and th probably - positive news changing slowly. trump went from about 90% of support in the primary voter after january six it came down to about 64 cents. nicetown-tioga 37% and so i was the only on
