US President Joe Biden is not expected to attend the Republic Day celebrations in India next month, as the Quad summit, a four-nation coalition comprising India, the US, Japan, and Australia, is not scheduled to take place in January. The Quad summit was expected to take place around January 27 if Biden accepted India s invitation. The Quad summit is now proposed to be held later in 2024, as the current dates do not work with all the Quad partners.

Blinken and US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin are visiting India for the annual India-US 2+2 foreign and defence ministerial dialogue. The last Quad summit had taken place in Hiroshima on May 20 on the sidelines of the G7 summit. The Quad summit was originally scheduled to take place in Sydney on May 24. However it was decided to hold it in Hiroshima after Biden postponed his trip to Australia.
