Big push for education of SCs: Govt approves post matric scholarship scheme

Scholarship to students belonging to the Scheduled Castes (PMS-SC).
The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The scheme will benefit more than four crore SC
students in the next five years in successfully completion of their higher education.

Key Highlights
The scheme will be run on an online platform with robust cyber security measures that would assure transparency, accountability, efficiency, and quick disbursal of the assistance.
Ensuring the fool-proof verification of the eligibility, caste status, Aadhaar identification and bank account details on the online portal will be the state s responsibility.

Switching from the existing “committed liability” formula, the new funding pattern would increase the Centre’s involvement in the scheme, a statement said.
