stay at the president s hotel here in washington. you write that although kentucky s republican party reimbursed the state for the stay in 2018, the transaction may still run a foul of an anti-corruption provision of the constitution barring the president from receiving any emoluments. talk about how this might play in some of the ongoing court cases that we re seeing. there are three active court cases against president trump for violating the emoluments clause. presidents can t take money from foreign governments, but the framers of the constitution also intended to stop the president from being bought off by individual states. they didn t want them to be able to pay extra and get consideration. states can t pay the president anything directly. so the lawsuits have said that trump has violated the constitution by taking money from state governments. the bevin example, matt bevin comes and gives the president s company a bunch of kentucky state money, that seems to play into what th
point, it s not legal. the constitution says that the president is not to get any emoluments. that s that word that a lot of us didn t know a few years ago. but basically, just means profit gain or advantage. he s not supposed to get that from either the federal government or the states beyond his salary. so when you have parts of the federal government coming to the president s businesses and paying a whole lot of money, he is he continues to be the primary owner of that business. so that money s going to his pocket. that violates the constitution. it s it s quite simply not legal. okay. so you have a lawsuit, an emoluments lawsuit, that s still going through the courts. what s the status of it? and do you expect there to be any resolution during donald trump s first term? potentially, his second term if he gets it there? so we are we re involved actually in two of those lawsuits. there s one that my organization crew brought itself, which we re
if i m donald trump i have a day of reckoning that s coming either next week or maybe next year for the elections. so the impeachment inquiry will continue on its own, it is a train that is barreling forward, we have that as glenn and i talked about last hour the noose tightening on donald trump in terms of the revealing and the transparency of what happened with ukraine, but when it comes to these specific subpoenas, these are criminal investigations. frankly the one from the manhattan da deals with state laws, has to deal with the hush money payments to stormy daniels and karen mcdougal. house oversight has to deal with ethics and government law, emoluments, disclosures, truth telling by trump. trump is only battling excuse me is not battle on only one front in the impeachment inquiry. if you thought the mueller investigation was bad enough for trump, there have been all of these slowly and surely developing litigation and cases that are ending up in court. i predict that the sup
