Emmanuel Manny Torres will be forever loved and never forgotten, his grandmother, Trecie Moore, said recently on her Facebook page.
Manny was shot to death at age 16 on April 15, becoming the second member of his family to die by homicide in the past 10 months.
Manny s uncle, Ricardo J. Rodriguez, died at age 20 last June in a traffic crash, which was also declared a homicide. The alleged driver in that crash goes to trial next month.
But no arrests have been made in this month s shooting death, and the family wants justice for Manny, said Trista Jasso, who was Manny s aunt and Ricardo s sister.
A GoFundMe campaign is being held to raise money to pay funeral costs for 16-year-old Emmanuel Ulysses Manny Torres, who was fatally shot last week in East Topeka.
Topeka police said they found the youth after being called about 7:22 p.m. April 15 to the area of S.E. 6th and Chandler. He was taken to a Topeka hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The family s GoFundMe campaign as of Friday morning had raised $655 of its $6,500 fundraising goal, according to its GoFundMe page.
The fund was initiated by Trista M. Jasso, who told The Capital-Journal Thursday that her sister was the youth s adopted mother.
