TUESDAY JUNE 29, 2021: The Carbon Market Institute (CMI) welcomes the release of a suite of carbon farming video case studies showing farmers benefiting from “carbon money” under the Federal government’s Emissions Reduction Fund.
The videos were produced in collaboration with the Clean Energy Regulator and tell the story of five different carbon farming methods: soil carbon, vegetation, revegetation, plantation forestry and human-induced regeneration.
John Connor, CEO of the CMI says: “These case studies highlight the significant employment and environmental benefits that come from carbon farming projects, as well as the climate benefits that flow from sequestering carbon through agricultural activities and land management.

The Carbon Market Institute says the 12th auction under former Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) – with $108 million results announced – should mark a turning point in federal climate policy.
Carbon Market Institute CEO John Connor said: “Let’s hope this is a turning point for a more evolved and sophisticated approach to carbon markets by the Morrison Government under stronger market driven climate policy that leads to more ambitious 2030 and 2050 goals.”
Mr Connor said a similar size auction due in September later this year will need to draw on PM Morrison’s Climate Solution Fund commitments of just under $2 billion over the next 15 years.

From: Natural Resources Canada
Today, the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Natural Resources, announced that the $750-million Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) onshore program is on track to cut, in its first year, methane emissions equivalent to 3.1 megatonnes of carbon dioxide, roughly equal to removing 674,000 cars from the road, highlighting encouraging results from the program’s first intake.
Reducing emissions from methane, one of the most potent greenhouse gases, is a key part of Canada’s strengthened climate plan and its commitment to achieving net zero by 2050, ensuring a healthy economy and a healthy environment for Canada. By acting now, Canada is building a clean energy future that powers economic growth, creates good jobs and dramatically reduces our greenhouse gas emissions.
