Regional Vaccination Clinic Reopens In State College With Moderna Vaccine

Credit Emily Reddy / WPSU Vaccinations will resume Thursday at the Regional Vaccination Clinic at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College. The clinic was briefly paused over concerns over rare blood clots in a small number of women who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which was being administered at the BJC.  The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Department of Health announced Wednesday that operations would resume using the two-dose Moderna vaccine. “The pause on the administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines required us to quickly pivot our planning in order to continue moving forward with appointments that are currently scheduled,” said PEMA Director Randy Padfield.

State College Borough Prepares For State Patty s Day Weekend

The pandemic makes concerns higher over gatherings in State College.  State College Mayor Ronald Filippelli said bars will see few changes since there are already COVID-19 restrictions in place. Filippelli believes apartments and rental houses will pose the greatest threat this weekend with a chance for large gatherings. “I m hoping there s peer pressure that will be put on by students who also live in those apartment complexes. They re being endangered and they will report, Filippelli said. University Park and borough police will patrol campus and downtown areas for violations of both liquor laws and COVID-related ordinances surrounding mask wearing and social distancing.

  Chip Minemyer’s mother, Marjorie, was born in the Bald Eagle Valley. Minemyer said she was sweet and full of life and loved the area. He lost his mother to COVID-19 on Thanksgiving day. “She was 92, a lifelong Centre County resident, Minemyer said.   Nationally, about a third of COVID-19 deaths are from nursing and personal care homes. In Pennsylvania, it’s more than half.   Marjorie Minemyer had been living at Centre Crest, a nursing home in Centre County, for about a year and a half.   Early on in the pandemic, Chip Minemyer could meet with her at a distance once in the garden, and then a few times through a window.
