Article content A Cornwall courthouse resumed proceedings Wednesday with an officer recalling his interactions with the accused from the beginning of his investigation. Brandon Smeltzer, 27, was charged with first-degree murder after confessing to killing Emilie Maheu on Oct. 11, 2018. OPP were led to Maheu’s body in a South Glengarry cornfield by a farmer, and Smeltzer broke down and confessed to killing the mother of his young daughter just days later.
