A Cornwall courthouse resumed proceedings Wednesday with an officer recalling his interactions with the accused from the beginning of his investigation.
Brandon Smeltzer, 27, was charged with first-degree murder after confessing to killing Emilie Maheu on Oct. 11, 2018. OPP were led to Maheu’s body in a South Glengarry cornfield by a farmer, and Smeltzer broke down and confessed to killing the mother of his young daughter just days later. Smeltzer faces life imprisonment and at least 25 years with no parole if convicted of planning the crime.
