good morning, everybody. we begin today with the aftermath of the colorado shooting massacre. most of us got our first glimpse of james holmes during a court appearance yesterday. the longtime friends say they hardly recognize the young man they once new. with more on the unfolding legal case, we re joined by brandy in sentinel, colorado today. reporter: good morning, he appeared to be locked in his own world. given the nature of the charges you re currently being held. reporter: by dyed comic book hair, 24-year-old holmes sat silent in a colorado courtroom looking dazed and confused just like his booking photo. i sat looking at his face and eventually i had to get past that and see who the killer was. reporter: some of the victim s families walked into court hand in hand. it was the first time they could see the man police say opened fire in a movie theater, killing 12 people and wounding dozens more. it has some speculatoring he would be drugged. reporter: abc

the areba restaurant chain. he was flying to scottsdale when the chopper crashed into a river. the three passengers on board also died. no word on the cause. people living on cape cod may need bigger boats. two great whites spotted right off the coast of cape cod. one of them was measured at 16 feet could weigh as much as 2,000 pounds, the sharks are drawn there because of seals in the area. there are no planes to close the beaches yet but a close eye is being kept on the waters especially because of the upcoming fourth of july holiday. guys, you know, up in chatham up there there used to be this sandbar that protected one of the beaches there so the sharks couldn t come in. recently, it broke away and it s a whole new problem up in that area. some would just tell the seals to go somewhere else and they wouldn t have this problem. they re good bait. that s true. meanwhile, a new round of severe storms hammered more than a dozen states in the last 24 hours. you could s

fate of britney norwood. montgomery attorney james shallic knows all about high profile cases. he is the prosecutor who tried the son of sam. he says selecting those 12 people is critical. if you don t have a jury that is sympathetic, you are wasting your time. it is the most important part of the case. reporter: they will have input, perhaps from jury consultants, who often study similar cases from the past. looking at similar cases around the country and what the juries were on those case gives you somewhat of a prediction. reporter: what could that mean for britney norwood. reporter: once the jurors are selected, no doubt they will be in for the case made for the big screen. he says the defendant is most responsible for that. the most compelling part of the case is her story and how to changed and how the police, through forensic evidence, and examining what she said, unraveled the case and the finger pointed to her. she basically led the police to the final co
