As executive director of Elon News Network, Elon’s student-run news organization, Wilkes wrote about the disparities in COVID-19 cases in Alamance County, how Elon University adjusted classes, and an election in the midst of a global pandemic. Mackenzie Wilkes ’22 This summer, Wilkes will join student journalists from across the country to report on the pandemic on a national level, participating in the 2021 Carnegie-Knight News21 Fellowship program, one of the most prestigious student journalism internships in the country. Wilkes and others will join forces to contribute to the program’s 2021 investigation, titled “Poverty and the Pandemic.”
