The Supreme Court was unanimous in a pair of rulings today, one on the rights of protesters, the other on president ial authority. In the first case, the justices struck down a Massachusetts Law that prevented antiabortion activists from getting anywhere near the entrances of clinics. Jan crawford is covering the court. You cant control it reporter massachusetts said the law was necessary to protect women as they entered clinics for abortions. It requires protesters to keep their distance, off public sidewalks within 35 feet of clinic entrances. But the law also kept away people like eleanor mccullen, a massachusetts grandmother who quietly counsels women against abortion and said the law violated her right to free speech. The justices unanimously agreed, striking down the Massachusetts Law and calling into question similar laws across the country. Being hit. Reporter oakland high school. What happened was a crime. Reporter last night at the Board Meeting people rallied behind the student who was attacked by a School Resource officer. There is no way a white student in his wheelchair would have been thrown on to the ground, slapped. We apologize to the family of the victim. May 19 when two officers were trying to get students into class. After failed attempts one officer grabbed the handles of his wheelchair and began to push him towards class. He began to spit on and slap the officers hand and the officer put him in handcuffs and much more. Then responded in an extremely emotional and unacceptable manner. Snapping and punching the student several times, throwing him out of the wheelchair. Dumping him on to the floor. He was hired in november. He was immediately fired and arrested by oakland police. Many are upset over a new teacher contract that includes a strict morality clause. Ktvus alex s has more on alex savage has more on a demonstration put on by parents. The band played this morning, dozens of parents and students lined the entrance to the high school in oakland standing up for teachers who were asked to sign a morality clause to keep their jobs. Protesters say they have the right to keep their private lives private. A nonissue. The point is to edgeicate our educate our students. But they are still cool, 49 to 56 degrees. Low clouds, even if you dont have the low clouds, you can see them off to the west. Inland there are some sunny areas. Oakland 54. A high of 67 degrees. Most temperatures coast and pay will be below average. Inland will be about 81, 80. There is an area of low pressure and another low we saw on tuesday keeping this pattern this place. A lot of 50s.
