Belmont reminds residents of ‘yard sale’ bylaw

The Town Clerk’s office reminds all residents a permit is required for all “yard sales” per town of Belmont General Bylaw §60-910 that sets out the limit of three sales in a calendar year and articulates requirements for those holding private sales (including garage sales, tag sales, moving sales, etc.).
Residents who intend to hold a private sale as defined in the bylaw, must first register and receive a free permit issued by the Town Clerk’s office. Residents can file for the Private Sale permit by going to the Town Clerk’s webpage on the town’s website http://belmont-ma.gov/town-clerk and select Yard Sale Permit. The first live indoor event at Town Hall since the pandemic began was the swearing in of Belmont s new Fire Chief David DeStefano the morning of March 15. Surrounded by his wife and two children, the Select Board, Police Chief James MacIsaac, Town Administrator Patrice Garvin, and members of the Belmont Fire Department including Assistant Chief Wayne Haley, DeStefano took is oath of office with Town Clerk Ellen O Brien Cushman. DeStefano was offered the position by the Select Board in January after a four month search by the appointed screening committee with the assistance of the firm, Municipal Resource Inc.

Nomination papers for town offices are available for those who are interested in running for office in Belmont. Candidates must be registered voters of Belmont.
In addition to many town-wide offices, 12 representative Town Meeting members are elected for three-year terms from each of our eight voting precincts.
Running for re-election to Town Meeting
Current Town Meeting members whose term of office expires in 2021 have already been mailed a letter asking if the person will seek re-election. Deadline for return of the signed response letter to the town clerk is absolute: 5 p.m. Jan. 26.
