And i apologize but i have to step out of the meeting but i do want to before, you complete your presentation, i just want to thank staff, for all of the work that has been done and to echo the comments of my colleagues, mr. Kennedy and others that have been doing this, and i was impressed with the level of community out reach that is being planned that has been done and i do want to get a specific copy of the plan that has been written for this effort. And the one thing that i want to under score is what i said at the meeting with the staff, i do think that it is important for us to reach out to certain communities, and the senior and the disabled community being a key community. And i would like to get more and input from them in terms of our my orty and the facing of this and i think that it is important to speak to young people and to include the School District and in this discussion. Because i think that you know, their plans long term whether it is an assignment or a dramatic pl
The right to vote allows us to vote for candidates or party and it is a significant way to have our voice heard. Exactly 100 years ago, women were given the vote in california. The battle for womens suffrage was not an easy one. It took more than 70 years. A woman could run for president in new york. Organizing this conference, basically it modeled itself on a declaration of independence for women. It marked the beginning of the womens Equality Movement in the united states. At that time, women were banned from Holding Property and voting in elections. Susan b. Anthony dedicated her life to reform. Suffrage in the middle of the 19th century accomplished one goal, it was diametrically opposed to this idea. Many feared it would be corrupted by politics. Rights you are going to see them vote with their feet and leave california. That attorneys me as someone who wants to retire and die in california i dont want to leave the state as a economic matter i dont consider myself to be fairly taxed. I do pay a higher tax rate and i think that is fine. But the people who are successful in our society are increasingly asked asked to bear more and more of the share of the tax burden as opposed to making sure that all citizens understand that if we are going to have a world class Education System we have to balance that against other things. We cannot both have a big bullet train to nowhere that is going to cost probably over billion dollars and have a world class system. I hope for the American Dream to continue here in california and i hope to have the Opportunity One day represent the voters of San Francisco and play my role in the Public Service and i come mend the senator for doing that and sacrificing his career in that regard and i hope to
Which essentially disadvantage and persecute young men of color who on a day to day basis are being subjected to the criminal Justice System in a way that is not done by other members of our society. You have got another minute. [ laughter ] on a day to day basis what were doing here in San Francisco is we are disenfranchising folks and limiting their ability for future employment. Once you have a conviction for a nonviolent drugrelated crime, your chances of getting a future employment are essentially nil. There was a Research Study published recently in a San Francisco newspaper, that showed the rate of drug convictions dropped, and the Violent Crime here in San Francisco did not rise. Essentially what were saying is that there is no correlation between drug use and Violent Crime. So the whole notion that we have to go after these folks to go into their neighborhoods and essentially make had a police state of their neighborhoods is ridiculous, preposterous and anne ethical and moral
