National companies offer incentives for employee vaccination

Publix is joining a long list of companies that have decided to provide incentives for their employees to get vaccinated – rather than mandate it. Dollar General decided to give fully vaccinated hourly employees a one-time payment of four hours of regular pay and salaried team members with additional store labor hours to reimburse them for any missed working time while getting the vaccine. Target said it would provide up to four hours of pay – two for each vaccine dose – and up to $15 each way in Lyft rides to employees needing a ride to and from their appointments.  Grocery chain Kroger’s approach is perhaps most similar to that of Publix – it will give employees a one-time payment of $100 once they receive the full COVID-19 vaccine.

Will Sarasota-Manatee colleges require COVID-19 vaccinations for students?

At New College of Florida, spokesperson Ann Comer-Woods said it is far too early to have an answer. “New College has not even begun to consider the option of requiring vaccines for students in the fall,” she wrote in an email last week. “At this time, it is premature for us to make such a decision.” At Ringling College of Art and Design, college leaders still are discussing whether to require the vaccine for students in the fall. The college currently has no plans to offer vaccines on campus, according to Tammy Walsh, Ringling’s vice president of student life and dean of students.
