Filmed-in-Pittsburgh Netflix comedy “The Chair” will premiere on the streaming service Aug. 27.
The six-episode, half-hour comedy stars Sandra Oh and filmed locally earlier this year.
The series follows the chair (Oh) of a university English department and should not be confused with Starz’s 2014 movie-making reality competition series, also titled “The Chair,” that was produced locally by Pittsburgh native Zachary Quinto.

Additional cast members include Jay Duplass, Holland Taylor, Bob Balaban, Nana Mensah and David Morse, who previously starred in the two-season Pittsburgh-filmed series “Outsiders” for WGN America.
In other TV news, NBC’s “This is Us” will officially end with its sixth season, airing in 2021-22. It was long expected that would be the show’s swan song as series creator Dan Fogelman has said he had six seasons’ worth of stories to tell.

Sweet Magnolias, the surprise Netflix hit from summer 2020, has begun filming season two. JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley (who play best friends Maddie Townsend, Dana Sue Sullivan, and Helen Decatur) are back for more romance and drama in the picturesque town of Serenity, South Carolina.
