Eagles finish season with 19-1 overall record

SALISBURY, Md- The Smyrna Eagles lost a late lead, and ultimately fell 51-45 in the 2021 DIAA state championship game to Sanford.
The Eagles jumped out to an 11-3 lead to begin the game, featuring a barrage of three pointers and tough interior defense. Smyrna would lead 17-10 after the first quarter, and hold a 28-20 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the Warriors began to break out. They put together an 8-0 run to tie the game at 28 with 5:35 left in the third quarter. Sanford would take their first lead since the first quarter a few minutes later, but Smyrna would recover and take a one point lead into the fourth (33-32).

DOVER, Del- In a repeat of the past two girls Henlopen championship games, the Cape Henlopen Vikings avenged last seasons loss to Woodbridge with the 37-36 victory. On the boys side, the Smyrna Eagles got their second Henlopen title since 2018 with the 59-53 win over Seaford.

It was part three of the Cape vs Woodbridge Henlopen title game saga. Cape took the first matchup 56-42 and Woodbridge won last season 48-40. The Vikings came into this one a perfect 13-0 while the Blue Raiders with just one loss to Caravel on their record.
