there s only room for one more, i believe. who will suffer the biggest embarrassment? well, look, i think when you talk about your mid, top-tier candidate, people like your cory bookers and kristen gillibrand, these are candidates that while they re certainly well funded now, if they don t continue to get the type of support and attention they need, they re not going to be able to be well funded for the duration. they need to be on that stage. they need to show they re viable and that they have a real shot at the nomination. you know, ally brings up a good point talking about how voters are really starting to be trained to think like pundits. i think a lot of that is trauma from 2016. voters feeling like, hey, we you know, we got a surprise on election day that we didn t like. so now there s this trauma associated with we don t want to wake up to another election day surprise in november of 2020. i think you re starting to see voters ak li voters act like pundits, which we can talk
1972 there was just no touching nixon. that was especially true in colorado, which was then a lot more conservative than it is today. nixon s margin in colorado was 28 points that year. even in the hub of the state s liberalism, denver, mcgovern still lost by double digits. and yet in the congressional district that covered denver, in that awful year for democrats, there was a big election day surprise. the incumbent republican congressman, james mckevitt was knocked off by patricia schroeder, field attorney for national labor board. when she was sworn in in january 1973 she became one of just 14 women in the house. the only one raising small children at home. this is back when it was widely assumed that women who worked did so out of boredom. a newspaper story said schroeder looked, quote, more like a college co-ed than a professional politician. they had no idea. over the next generation, congresswoman schroeder would
