Dimapur, Aug. 9 (EMN): The Delimitation Demand Committee for the North Eastern states (DDCNE) of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court seeking directive to conduct delimitation exercise in the four northeastern states. DDCNE, in its plea, stated that selectively denying delimitation to the four NE states while the same exercise was being conducted in the rest of India, was in violation of the fundamental right under Article 14 of the Constitution. A presidential order dated February 28, 2020 had allowed conducting the delimitation exercise in the four states and subsequently, the government of India constituted a delimitation commission for the purpose of delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir and the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland, it stated.
