Ayanna Webster-Roy, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Gender and Child Affairs, and Joanne Archie, acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, indicated such during their contributions to the PNM Women’s League International Women’s Day celebration at the Government Plaza Auditorium in Port of Spain on Saturday.

Tuesday 23 February 2021 THE EDITOR: Following my previous reviews, I believe that the virtual offerings from our soca artistes and certain calypsonians during the Carnival 2021 period are still credible but only so much. There is determination though enduring success still awaits. TT should give them an “A” for effort. The problem is that more than effort is needed. First of all, our artistes need to see themselves not only vying for a home-based feteing audience but as competitors in international show business. In other words, they have to think about events that will have as many elements of entertainment as possible.

Kambule film premieres on J Ouvert morning

Kambule film premieres on ‘J’Ouvert morning’ Canboulay re-enactment on February 21, 2020, on Piccaddily Street, Port of Spain. - THE re-enactment of the 1881 Canboulay riots on Piccadilly Greens, Port of Spain, is a large part of the Carnival experience for many people. This year, Kambule the film, a new docudrama about the riots, will be aired on TTT, on what would have been J’Ouvert morning, February 15, at 5 am. The retelling of the classic story is directed by award-winning filmmaker Maya Cozier. The film will premiere as part of a morning of activities dedicated to keeping the spirit of Carnival alive. In a release, Kambule playwright Eintou Springer said, “It’s been an exciting and challenging process taking this play in such a different direction. It has been a joy to work so closely with Maya to realise her vision of how to translate the play to the screen.”
