The group, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, has a history of social-justice advocacy.
The sisters are the latest group to embrace shareholder advocacy in regard to Walmart.
During Walmart s upcoming remote shareholders meeting in June, one unexpected group plans to push the company s board to sanction a report to determine whether the retailer s starting pay for employees truly aligns with its racial-justice goals and commitments.
That mandate isn t from a major shareholder or labor union. Instead, it comes from the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, a Roman Catholic congregation in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
