KARACHI: Eight Pakistani women have been honoured in the global 100 Outstanding Women Nurse and Midwife Leader list for year 2020. During the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, amidst a global pandemic, the courageous work of nurses and midwives deserves, more than ever, to be honoured not just by applause, read a statement issued by Women in Global Health (WGH) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Population Fund, Nursing Now, International Council of Nurses and International Confederation of Midwives on the list.
Out of the eight women, five are faculty members at the Agha Khan University s School of Nursing and Midwifery while three are the varsity s alumni. Eight Pakistani nurses and midwives have been honoured in the global 2020 100 Outstanding Women Nurses and Midwives. All eight nurses and midwives from Pakistan are faculty or alumni at the Aga Khan Universityâs School of Nursing and Midwifery, SONAM.
One hundred nurses and midwives from 43 countries have been recognised for their contribution to raising healthcare standards across the globe, especially during these difficult times. These outstanding leaders have been acknowledged by Women in Global Health (WGH), which collaborated with the World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Population Fund, Nursing Now, International Council of Nurses and International Confederation of Midwives on the list.

The recognition marks the end of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) year-long campaign to celebrate the incredible work of nurses and midwives, highlight the challenging conditions they face, and advocate for enhanced investments in the nursing and midwifery workforce. The list recognised 100 nurses and midwives from 43 countries for their contribution to raising healthcare standards, especially during the difficult times of the coronavirus pandemic.
