KARACHI: Eight Pakistani women have been honoured in the global 100 Outstanding Women Nurse and Midwife Leader list for year 2020. During the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, amidst a global pandemic, the courageous work of nurses and midwives deserves, more than ever, to be honoured not just by applause, read a statement issued by Women in Global Health (WGH) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Population Fund, Nursing Now, International Council of Nurses and International Confederation of Midwives on the list.

Nurses and midwives from 43 countries have been recognised for their contribution to raising healthcare standards across the globe, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. The list was a result of collaboration between the Women in Global Health and World Health Organisation, United Nations Population Fund, Nursing Now, International Council of Nurses and International Confederation of Midwives.

Eight Pakistani nurses and midwives have been honoured in the global 2020 100 Outstanding Women Nurses and Midwives. All eight nurses and midwives from Pakistan are faculty or alumni at the Aga Khan Universityâs School of Nursing and Midwifery, SONAM.
