another embarrassing vote on the horizon, the speaker may take some solace in the fact that you can count on the support of at least one man, donald trump. here he was yesterday, expressing his gratitude for the disgraced ex president. i do want to especially thank president trump. i don t think anybody should doubt his influence. he was with me for the beginning, somebody wrote the before he was there and he was all in. he would call me and he would call others. and he really was i, was just talking to him tonight, helping get those final votes. so during the four-day speakership spectacle that we just witnessed, trump lobbied hard for the man he once referred to as quote, my kevin. trump worked the phones, attempting to get members of his maga base behind mccarthy. in fact here you can see marjorie taylor greene during one of those votes trying to pass the phone to congressman matt rosendale. the screen shows the initials d t in green later confirmed trump was in fact o

ongoing dynamic site of a perpetual contestation over democracy. that it s the sight of a constant pitched battle between forces on the side of democracy and forces against them. and the forces against them are not fringe characters. and sometimes, the forces against them are the most celebrated people in the country. andrew jackson, who is viewed as a small democrat because he sort of railed against the elites. right? and he, you know, founded the modern democratic party with his sort of populism. and he invited the people into the white house on the day of his eggnog ration where they all got drunk. he was not, in any recognizable sense, really a democrat in the way that we think about today. he thought that there was a cast of people who should rule over another cast of people. he was one of the major pursuers of the ethnic cleansing that made the continent what it is. okay? he didn t think that everyone
speculation, if you will, about where president bolsonaro is at this moment. can you just tell us, i mean, what has his role been in this from your reporting and others in your network? i mean it, bolsonaro has denounced the supporters storming congress but he has rejected accusations that he bears any responsibility for this through his lies about the election being stolen. i just want to get your thoughts on where you think he is in terms of responsibility for what we saw play out today. he is now in florida. he is in the united states. he left brazil two days before lula and his eggnog ration. he has a responsibility for sure. because those people are his supporters. they are following what he was saying all over the past few years, especially in the months leading up to the election. after the election he wasn t talking much, but since before the election he was talking about the possibility of fraud
