has people that are going to be with him regardless. maeve, there was a question whether or not candidates who have not gotten any traction recently were able to. and some people looking at chris christie this morning? yeah, definitely, chris christie had a very strong night. you know, really getting the better of jeb in that fantasy football exchange that we talked about earlier. he s been working very hard in new hampshire doing, you know, dozens of town halls, really working it. so it will be interesting to see whether he can get a little oxygen now to kind of come back in the game, if you look sat jeb bush s collapse, christie could potentially gain from that. and that will be something that will be really interesting to watch. i also thought that trump s performance last night was fascinating. because his poll numbers dropped a little bit. and he really like backed off, you know, all of the attacks, with the exception of kasich that he s done in the last few weeks. so this don
member of congress. so what is the strategy to go after donald trump tonight? i think that the candidates have to assume a big thing, which is that we have entered a new phase of the campaign starting out. over the summer we introduced all the candidates to the country and 90% of that was introducing donald trump. the campaign now has to switch to more of a focus on policy and proposals, more of a focus on the differences between the candidates. and they can t try to compete with donald trump in terms of personality or personna or anything like that. they have to talk seriously about, do you really want to try to deport 11 million people? do you really want to seize the oil fields in the middle east and appropriate their revenues from the united states? how are you going to do that? what is that going to mean? actual differences over issues are what aught to matter in the next phase of the campaign, which aught to be very good for governor bush. but also for governor kasich and senat
do you think it s time to check that tone for reverend sharpton and leaders to clarify what they mean by what they want to see and not direct hostility towards police but focus on policy. i don t know civil rights leaders that talked about doing something here. everybody has tried to promote change and attribute the senseless acts of violence it s analogous to trying to contribute the attacks of lee harvey oswald to martin luther king in the civil rights non-violent protests. there is just ridiculous. we need to use this as an opportunity to elevate the conversation as a society to
angela, how prevalent is this idea that manchin is bringing up with congressional democrats? well, we do know, as you said, this has been a point of discussion for years. what we also know is when the president initially came into office right after the 2008 election, the president s focus was on trying to fix some of the dysfunction in washington and trying to focus on policy. over time we ve seen him make several changes, whether it was appointing chief of staff daly to be the relater in chief and delegating more of that to the vice president. he s done even more after he appointed chief of staff mcdonough to do more of the relationships. he started doing more golf outings and dinners. when we ve seen on the other side is relationships isn t necessarily its end all, be all. he has relationships from being in senate just a little while and his manchin-toomey amendment didn t succeed because of the
spears today because they want to show that democrats don t want to be columned into this mess, that the irs has created. it s a fascinating thing to see how this all plays out. it is. peter alexander back at the white house, is the white house counting on republicans overplaying their hand? the white house feels pretty confidently when these things becomes partisan as they have insisted this has been since the beginning that s when republicans look bad and they start to look good. they re trying to focus on policy. hammering reporters saying they re going to baltimore, second effort to focus on jobs, what americans are talking about. they re going to an elementary school to focus on pre-k education, infrastructure, dredging manufacturing company up there to try to make a difference on that front as well. there s a whole other topic we ll talk about, one of the items that hasn t been addressed as we focus on the primary three scannedles, the issue of the military sexual assaults, t
