Group backs South-South Governors, calls for inauguration of NDDC board

Following the demand from South-South Governors that President Muhammadu Buhari should place all funds accruing to Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, with the exception of salaries, in an escrow account until he (Buhari) inaugurated a board in accordance with the Act establishing the interventionist agency, group known as Niger Delta Renaissance Coalition, Tuesday threw its weight behind them, calling for the inauguration of NDDC board.
In a statement signed by Comrade Damian Nwikinaka, National Chairman, the group said: “We are in full agreement with the demands of the Governors of the South-South States for the immediate inauguration of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to run the agency in line with the NDDC Act.

Our attention has been drawn to comments credited to Mr Olubunmni Tunji-Ojo, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Niger Delta, which oversights the Niger Delta Development Commission, that he is proposing a bill for the NDDC Act to be repealed and replaced with a new law.
Tunji-Ojo said the bill he is proposing will stipulate minimum qualifications for the offices of the Managing Director and the Executive Directors.

Following his statement on why the National Assembly, NASS, is repealing the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Act, a group known as Transparency and Accountability Advancement group, Thursday, disagreed with the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on NDDC, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, insisting that the commission has no problem that would warrant amendment of its Act.
Yesterday, Tunji-Ojo said that the need to amend the commission’s Act was to make it more development orientated in the service of the region. He equally stated that many deficiencies inherent in the extant laws regulating the affairs of the commission were stifling efficiency and transparency in the commission.
Controversial Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio and his lackey, Effiong Okon Akwa, who is Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, have squandered N22billion recently released to the agency by the Federal Government, investigations have revealed.
This is also coming on the heels of another allegations that the Minister who is building a sprawling multibillion naira mansion in Abuja, is also expecting the delivery of two private jets bought on his behalf by his front, one Dubem Obazie.
Akpabio and Obazie’s wife are sisters from Anambra state.
The multibillion mansion still under construction is located on Samuel Ademulegun Street, around National Mosque, Behind Zenith Bank, Central Area, Abuja.
