City officials were here early this morning, apparently by his side when he died. As you said, acting mayor london breed came out around 3 38 am and read a brief statement, similar to the statement emailed out this morning at 2 38 am saying with profound sadness and terrible grief they confirmed that mayor ed lee had passed away this morning at 1 11 am here at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. She said that family and friends were by his side. She said that her thoughts were with the family, his wife and daughters, saying they were by his side when he died this morning. I just talked to mysources at the San Francisco Police Department. Thishappened around 11 00 last night. According to intosources the mayor was shopping at the safeway when he collapsed. It went over theradio as a person down, a medical emergency. They rushedto the safeway. When they gotto the safeway thats when they realized that it was the San Francisco mayor, 65 years old.
