The Fairfield City Council The Fairfield City Council met for their regular meeting last night with all members present. Although there were only 3 agenda items to be addressed, discussion on some of the items was lengthy. The council reviewed a proposed ordinance regarding the placement of storage containers on residential property. This issue was briefly discussed at the last meeting with City Attorney Darren Rice instructed to draft a proposed ordinance. Some of the stipulations that are being proposed in the ordinance are: Can't exceed 30% of the property or 320 sq. ft., whichever is less; Must be painted a monochrome color with no visible lettering or signage; Placed to minimize visibility from the street; May only be placed in areas zoned R1, R2, or R3; May be altered but must retain structural integrity; Must be 7' from a structure - Applies to storage containers only. The Edwards County Health Office in conjunction with the Edwards County Farm Bureau will be offering a drive-thru flu shot clinic today from 11:00am until 4:00pm at the Edwards County Fairgrounds in Albion, Illinois. "Offering a drive-thru clinic allows us the ability to serve our community in an efficient manner," states Amanda McCoy of the Edwards County Health Office. The drive-thru flu shot clinic is for private pay, private insurance, and Medicare customers only. All Medicaid customers MUST call the health office and make an appointment to get a flu shot. Anyone ages six months and over can get a flu shot, however, the drive-thru clinic is recommended for only those ages 5 and up. Cost for private pay flu shots is $30 for low dose and $65 for high dose (for those over age 65). Anyone who wishes to get a flu shot at the drive-thru clinic will remain in their car and is urged to wear short sleeves. Those paying with private insurance or Medicare need to bring their insuran

The City of Fairfield's water department is advising that water will be shut off on East Douglas Street from S. 1st Street to SE 6th Street on tomorrow, Tuesday, October 18th and possibly Wednesday, October 19th. Jury deliberation is tentatively expected to begin later today, as Testimony is wrapping up at the Wayne County Courthouse in the first-degree murder trial of Brodey I. Murbarger. Murbarger, 26, is accused of the disappearance and murder of 15-year-old Megan Nichols of Faifield on July 3, 2014. Murbarger was arrested on October 8th of 2020 in Evansville, IN after being indicted by a Wayne County Grand Jury. The State moved to dismiss one of the charges against Murbarger as the trial got underway. The Class-3 felony charge of concealment of a homicidal death was dismissed without prejudice and without objection. That charge alleged that Murbarger, with knowledge that Megan P. Nichols had died by homicidal means, knowingly concealed the death of Megan P. Nichols by causing her body to be buried in a shallow grave in a remote area of Wayne County." Murbarger is standing trial for three counts of first-degree murder in the death of Nichols, who went missing on the evening of July 3, 2

A reminder that petitions for the Consolidated Election to be held on April 4, 2023 are currently available in the office of City Clerk Tina Hutchcraft. Office hours are 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. A Mayor will be elected for a two-year term to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Dreith and one alderman from each of the City's four wards will be elected for a four-year term. Petition circulation began September 20. Filing period for those petitions is December 12 – December 19.
