His name is edward keith harris. He was 78. Search and rescue found him not too far from his home in the evergreen area. Officials are urging people to please stay away from the impacted areas. There are still down trees, downed power lines. Very dangerous situations for people driving or walking around. There are still many without power, about 40 percent of the county without power. They are asking people to not eat any food that has been out of temperature. Also, they have two shelters available, Appomattox Community center and the fire department. Our area is a very loving area, a supportive area. Many people are asking how they can help, how can they donate. What officials are doing right now is gathering information from local relief agencies so they can make sure people who donate are really going to get their donations to the victims that really need them. The governor handed his personal number to victims in case they need assistance. He says hes asking the federal government for money to help with cleanup costs. It wasnt until daylight after the storm the people of evergreen could really grasp the devastation. The governor said in his fly over today that the path of the storm is 12 to 15 miles long. He walked across these fields where homes used to stand talking to homeowners looking for anything they have left that wasnt destroyed. One of those was Tracie Morgan the day after families here in evergreen search the rubble of their homes looking to salvage anything they can. Many houses were leveled.
