do you still go to a comedy club in hermosa beach? yes, every sunday since 1978. almost 50 years? yeah. to try out new material? jimmy carter was president when i was there. how big is the club? 350, something like that. jay leno, the host of the tonight show, is in this comedy club in hermosa beach. why? well, that s how you find out if it s any good or not. it s how you find out if something s funny. you know, when you re on tv there s a laugh button. you know, a lot of times you see comedians will do a monologue on the tonight show and it gets big laughs. they go to a club it doesn t seem that funny. because if they re primed to laugh, then they ll laugh. when you ve got to turn them around, you know. i read somewhere that when you were in high school, your guidance counseling said to your mother, you re in high school. aerks yeah. you know, education isn t for everyone, mrs. leno. that s right, that s right. education s not for everyone.
