Compact 2020 launches a new platform Photo by Erin Nelson. Natalie Steed, communications development coordinator for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, works with deputy Matt Glassford and Sgt. Kevin Brand as they record their introductions for the Compact 2020 podcast March 29. In 2016, city and county leaders from Shelby County came together to form a partnership like nothing that had been done before. Their goal was to take a proactive approach to the increasing trend of substance abuse and addiction among students and young adults and equip families to respond to their loved ones facing these challenges. That partnership, called Compact 2020, uses career law enforcement officers, who are specialized investigators, in an attempt to gather information to identify students and young adults who are at risk of substance abuse and addiction or are already involved.

The Morris Center at Alabama Game Changers has a program based on the developmental hierarchy of the brain to help neurons in the brain form new connections, assisting in reading and language skills.

More dining options coming to Chelsea Photo courtesy of Wayne Morris, City of Chelsea During the March 16 Chelsea City Council meeting, mayor Tony Picklesimer shared in his mayor s report that two new restaurants will be opening in Chelsea later this year.  “I’m excited to announce that Southern Wings has purchased property next to Tractor Supply and will be opening Arby’s on one lot and the Buffalo Wild Wings on the other lot on Atchison Parkway,” he said.  Tim Spencer and Sterling Barbour, partners with Southern Wings Inc. Buffalo Wild Wings Franchises Central Alabama Area, approached mayor Tony Picklesimer about wanting to bring the new eating options to the city.
