Argentina s Superminister Sergio Massa, who is not an economist himself despite having been entrusted with what used to be 3 Ministries (Economy, Agriculture and Production) Sunday confirmed through social media Gabriel Rubinstein would be joining his team as Secretary of Economic Programming.
Massa is widely assumed to model his ambitions on Brazil’s Fernando Henrique Cardoso but even subordinating all else to that goal does not automatically make his policies more predictable.
Massa’s rise has relegated President Alberto Fernández to a distant third in the ruling troika where Cristina Fernández de Kirchner retains full veto powers even when abstaining from calling the shots.
Argentine President Alberto Fernández chose Silvina Batakis as the new Economy Minister following the resignation of Martín Guzmán during the weekend, a move which has prompted a rise in the informal exchange rate between the local peso and the US dollar, thus fueling already seemingly unstoppable inflation.
