Ryde celebrates 100 years of women in local government
The City of Ryde celebrated 100 years of women in local government with the unveiling of an honour
board which recognises every woman who has served on Council.
A total of 17 women have served as Councillors for the City of Ryde, with Edna Wilde OAM the only
woman to have served as Mayor, a role she held on three separate occasions between 1980 -1982.
1999 -2000 and 2002 -2004.
Mrs Wilde OAM was present at the unveiling as well as current serving councillors, Clr Edwina Clifton
and Clr Penny Pedersen.

Following on from the successful development approval for the Ryde Civic Centre transformation, the
project enters the next significant stage with d emolition works to commence on 1 March 2021.
The demolition works will continue through to July 2021, weather permitting and will include the demolition
of the seven -storey Civic Centre and one -storey Community Hall.
A number of significant items from the old Civic Centre such as signage, coat of arms and a mosaic floor
design will be incorporated into the new development where possible.
