Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State swimming and diving teams handed out awards for the 2022-23 season on Saturday. “It was a great day to come together and celebrate our season,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We’ve built an incredible team culture and I am very proud of our student-athletes and what they’ve achieved this season.” Yordan Yanchev, Edith Jernstedt were named the Most Valuable for swimming, while Samantha Vear and Tazman Abramowicz took home the honor for divers.
Knoxville, Tenn. – Florida State swimmer Edith Jernstedt closed the 2022-23 season by earning an All-America honor in the 200 fly at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Jernstedt finished 13th in the race, touching with a time of 1:55.15, producing the highest finish in the race at NCAAs since Chelsea Britt finished eighth at the 2015 meet. She is the fifth Seminole in history to earn an All-America honor in the 200 fly. “It was a great day to finish off a very special season with these amazing ladies,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “I love the progress we made this year and I’m so excited for the future.” Jernstedt qualified for her first NCAA final in 12th place after clocking her personal best at 1:54.64, inching her closer to Britt’s FSU record (1:53.68). Her swim at finals was the second-fastest of her career. In prelims, Maddy Huggins led the way for the Noles in the 200 breast, touching with a time of 2:10.9
NCAA Championship Site Knoxville, Tenn. – The Florida State women’s swimming and diving team had four student-athletes competing on Friday at the 2023 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Anna Metzler closed out her career by finishing 19th in the 400 IM, improving her seed from 28th, touching at 4:10.35, which was just off her season best of 4:10.18. Edith Jernstedt finished third in the heat two of the 100 fly, touching at 52.73 for 38th overall. The swim was just off her season best (52.54). Jernstedt will compete in her specialty, the 200 fly on Saturday. Maddy Huggins swam her personal best in the 100 breast at 1:00.25, touching second in heat two for 38th overall. NCAA Championship Site Knoxville, Tenn. – Florida State diver Samantha Vear earned an All-America honorable mention in the women’s 1-meter diving event at the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Vear finished in 10th place, becoming the seventh diver in school history to score at NCAAs on 1-meter and first since Ayla Bonniwell in 2017. It was the highest finish in the event since Katrina Young placed eighth in 2015. “I am so incredibly proud of Sammy,” FSU head coach John Proctor said. “She’s a junior and this is her first postseason and to do what she’s done is just unbelievable. This is her first real pop at this and she really stepped up big today.” At the halfway mark in prelims, Vear sat in 15th place, just under seven points out of eighth place. After getting through her toughest dive in the fourth round, Vear finished strong, scoring marks of 6.5-7.0 on her last two dives to close prelims with a total of 28
Results Knoxville, Tenn. – Florida State divers Samantha Vear and Tazman Abramowicz punched their tickets to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Monday at the Zone B Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Vear placed seventh in the women’s 1-meter competition, while Abramowicz finished eighth in the men’s 3-meter event. Vear advances to her first NCAAs and will join teammates Julia Mansson, Edith Jernstedt, Maddy Huggins, Anna Metzler along with the 200 medley relay next week back in Knoxville. Abramowicz qualified for the fifth time in his career and is the first Seminole to earn a spot in the men’s meet, which will take place March 22-25 in Minneapolis, Minn. “It was a great day today,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “Sammy loves to compete.
