Carter County Car Club holds annual car show on Saturday

ELIZABETHTON — The Carter County Car Club will be hosting its annual Car Show in downtown Elizabethton this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Club President Eddie Brumitt said this will mark the 16th straight year the event has been held in downtown after a two-year run at the Borla Performance Company in south Johnson City. “This is our yearly fundraiser to support our children’s charities,” Brumitt said. He said last year the club raised $21,990. That was all donated to charities, and a lot of the money was raised during the one-day show. The rest of it was raised during the club’s weekly Cruise-Ins.

Elizabethton City Council discusses weekly downtown car shows

ELIZABETHTON — One of Elizabethton’s most well-known downtown events came in for discussion during Thursday’s meeting of the Eliza-bethton City Council. Council members and citizens took the opportunity to discuss the weekly car shows that take place in the downtown blocks of East Elk Avenue from April through October. Joy McCray, executive director of the Eliza-bethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce, said understanding that the car shows were not supposed to start until 5 p.m. is not being followed. She said some people have been parking their classic cars in prime parking spots hours before the show starts. Other store merchants said some car show fans set up lawn chairs several hours before the start of the shows.

Carter County Car Club ready to start new season of cruise-ins on Elk Avenue

ELIZABETHTON — The Carter County Car Club is getting ready to start a new season of cruise-ins in downtown Elizabethton on Saturday evenings. Club President Eddie Brumitt said things should be the same as they have been for the past several years. As always, all proceeds from the weekly cruise-ins go to children’s charities. The charities supported last year were: the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, the Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Carter County Schools’ Accelerated Reader, Children’s Evangelism Fellowship, Friends of Down Syndrome, and the Isaiah 117 House. Even though several days of cruise-ins were not held last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the club raised over $20,000 for charities.

Covid-19 doesn t stop car club from raising funds for children

ELIZABETHTON — The pandemic has ruined a lot traditional events this year, from sporting events to Easter celebrations and from high school graduations to trick or treating. But COVID-19 did not spoil the annual contributions the Carter County Car Club makes to children’s charities every Christmas. The car club raises the money it gives to the charities by accepting donations at the weekly cruise-ins it hosts in downtown Elizabethton every Saturday evening during the warm months of the year and from its annual car show in July. Club President Eddie Brumitt said it did not look like the club would be able to raise very much money this year because the pandemic forced the cancellation of the first two months of cruise-ins.
