Pentecost Sunday marks the end of the 50-day season of Easter and the descent of the Holy Spirit in the upper room and the beginning of apostolic preaching, thus marking a defining moment in the origin of the Christian Church. It is celebrated on Sunday, May 23. In their joint message, the bishops opened by quoting a verse from the book of Acts in the Bible: All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability - Acts 2:4.
