COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) â In an effort to support local businesses and encourage greater social activity in the downtown area, the Coldwater City Council passed a resolution on Monday night which establishes a Social District.
A state law which went into effect on July 1, 2020, allows local governmental units to designate a Social District and Commons Areas within its jurisdiction.
The social district will stretch along U.S. 12 between Jackson and Hudson Streets and between Harrison and Pearl Street.
Coldwater Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden told the City Council that those businesses who qualify may sell alcoholic drinks on their licensed premises to customers who may then consume the drink within the Commons Area of the Social District.
