City Council approves establishment of downtown Social District By Jim Measel May 25, 2021 | 8:45 AM COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In an effort to support local businesses and encourage greater social activity in the downtown area, the Coldwater City Council passed a resolution on Monday night which establishes a Social District. A state law which went into effect on July 1, 2020, allows local governmental units to designate a Social District and Commons Areas within its jurisdiction. The social district will stretch along U.S. 12 between Jackson and Hudson Streets and between Harrison and Pearl Street. Coldwater Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden told the City Council that those businesses who qualify may sell alcoholic drinks on their licensed premises to customers who may then consume the drink within the Commons Area of the Social District.

Coldwater one of ten Michigan cities hosting community development fellow

By Jim Measel May 20, 2021 | 7:34 PM COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater will be one of ten communities in Michigan which will host a community development fellow for the 2021-2022 program year through the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan. The Fellowship is made possible with funding and partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The fellowship was created to help address a common challenge Michigan’s diverse communities face which is a lack of sufficient capacity to achieve their economic development potential. Fellows work directly with existing municipalities or organizations in communities for 15-months on projects that expand organizational capacity, increase local collaboration, and remove barriers to development.

Coldwater, MI, USA / WTVB | 1590 AM · 95.5 FM | The Voice of Branch County Jan 10, 2021 9:36 AM COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked on Monday night to pass a resolution which would support and cooperate with the Downtown Development Authority’s application to the Michigan Main Street Select Level program. The City of Coldwater has been looking at becoming a Michigan Main Street Community for just over a year. It’s hoped grants from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation program can be used to help small local businesses in the downtown area. Coldwater Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden said in her letter to the Council that if selected for the Select Level program, the D.D.A. would be responsible for implementing the program and would agree to its minimum participation standards.
