Econo Lodge in La Crosse becoming temporary COVID shelter for homeless population
A section of the hotel will be designated for homeless people who contract or are exposed to the virus

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Two shelters in La Crosse are closing to our homeless population and they’re being moved to a different building.
La Crosse County has been partnering with the Gundersen Hotel since November to house homeless people who contract or are exposed to COVID-19.
“And that has worked fabulously until this week,” La Crosse County associate administrator Jane Klekamp said.
Catholic Charities Warming Center on 3rd Street has had several positive COVID cases since mid-January.
