symbiotic relationship between the media and the right wing politicians. the more the right wing politicians like these legislators in california launch these new investigations and reviews and call them audits, even though they re not really audits, the more they do that, the more oxygen they re giving to these reporters to keep the story alive. of course viewers are going to think there is something to it. why would the state legislature launch this investigation if there wasn t fraud? there wasn t fraud, but they re doing it, anyway. let me give you a preview of what s coming up next week, everybody. the new book written by bob costas is called peril. we ll see a leak of this book in the coming days. let me read what eugene robinson said about peril. republican jonathan carr promises it will be newsworthy on an international scale. it s an interesting quote, but we ll hear about peril a lot in the coming days.
and for the advisers around president trump, but it s also important for our allies and our adversaries. you don t want to be rolling the dice on this kind of stuff. just historical context, in the kennedy administration, there was a book written by barbara tuckman, the guns of august and that explained how we stumbled into world war i. and kennedy had his advisers area ed that. and if you study that, kennedy was really a model i think of how to deal with these international crises, and i m afraid that donald trump is in many ways anathetical to kennedy. you talk about establishing stability, establishing exit ramps and knowing how to execute. who at the moment can we look at in this administration for those types of answers? either who has the institutional knowledge, the memory, the diplomatic skill to be able to say let s take this exit ramp here before we end up in a war that we weren t planning to be
ask questions that have been asked and answered. we have doj inquiries. we had james comey testify. we had a book written by james comey. so this is all about anything but oversight. it s a last ditch attempt to wouldn t n-flame a base and not let go of an issue that s already been addressed. so given that, what happens in roughly a month and a half from now even less when democrats take over the house? this goes away. it doesn t go away. the focus will change. the ranking member of the democratic side will be the chairman. i ll be watching to see how he handles this. but the republican side is very interesting because there are a number of retirements. lots of retirements on the republican side of the judiciary committee. jim jordan who is a fierce ali of president trump will be the ranking member, becoming the president s defender in chief. other republicans on that panel will have more he is neither, people like steve king who are
hillary clinton investigation. she left ochs of secretary of state in 2013. not in office all that time. the idea of reopening an investigation on her 230ufounda, source came from a book written by steve bannon s partner that landed in the new york times fum of fictions about hillary clinton and conspiracy theories. can you foresee a circumstance where it s valid to go back and investigation her based on that? well, you know, there s a stcht statute of limitations. five years for most crimes. anything done criminally has likely run anyway. congress has oversight of the fbi. it s not inherently problematic for congress to ask in an oversight rule for something to be reviewed. i put trust in the career people of the fbi to have done the investigation first the right time and those who revieweds it, look, did it by the book the first time. nothing changed. review it per somebody s request but nothing changes here.
