Graphic Online BY: George Folley 705 Preliminary police investigation into the ghastly road accident at Akyem Asafo on the Accra-Kumasi highway has attributed it to driver recklessness. The driver of one of the two buses involved in the accident was said to have attempted to overtake four long vehicles in a row, leading to a head-on collision. As of 4 p.m. yesterday, 19 persons had been confirmed dead in the accident that occurred at about 1.30 a.m. yesterday when two KIA Granbird passenger buses, one of them VIP branded, collided head-on. The VIP bus with registration number GE 5510 -15 was heading to Accra from Sankore in the Ahafo Region while the other bus with registration number GT 5629 - 18 was from Accra heading to Kumasi.

President issues promotions in Prisons Service

The President gave the approval for the promotions last Tuesday on the advice of the Prisons Service Council, in accordance with Article 207(3) of the 1992 Constitution. New departments The service has also created two new directorates Agriculture, which has been decoupled from Operations, and Health. A statement signed by the Chief Public Relations Officer of the GPC, Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Courage Atsem, said the Director of Prisons (DOP), Mr Isaac Kofi Egyir, has now been promoted to Deputy Director-General of Prisons (DDGP) in charge of Operations.

12 senior Prisons officers, 1000-plus junior officers promoted

Immigration Ladies Association Supports Sos Village

The items, which cost GHC3,500 included consumables such as soft drinks, bottled drinking water, rice, vegetables and others made up of used clothings, soaps and sanitary items among others, were to help in the upkeep of the children in the home during the Christmas and New Year festive season. Presentation The Vice-President of the association, Superintendent Dinah Adjei, who presented the items last Tuesday at Akwadum (December 22) on behalf of the Eastern Regional Commander of the GIS, who is also the President of the association, DCI Prudence Aku Sosuh, said the support was part of measures to share the love of Christmas with everyone especially the children.
