Overnight from two Flood Control reservoirs outside the city. That water is spilling into Buffalo Bayou and will head into downtown houston. Norah odonnell joins us now. We have been watching it all week. Its terrible pictures. What can you tell us, whats the latest now . Good morning. I do feel like sunday was a turning point in many ways in this storm. So were waking up this morning sort of looking at the ravages of that increased water, rain. You just mentioned it, the corps of engineers had to open the reservoirs ahead of schedule to take the pressure off because water levels increased dramatically overnight. Now, releasing that water will increase the flood risk for hundreds of homes along this waterway. This is the Buffalo Bayou. They dont even know how much it rose last night because the gauges are always out of service. Its an incredibly dangerous situation. People were told to pack their cars, get ready to leave at dawn, but that was before they started letting out the water.

Now we hear reports of people being looted. Good morning. Since harvey made landfall, the coast guard have performed more than 1450 rescues. That number doesnt include volunteers out in their own personal water craft rescuing people stuck in their homes. The rain keeps coming. As the remnants of Hurricane Harvey continue to pour over houston and the texas gulf coast, another day of historic rainfall, putting much of the nations fourth largest city under water. We rode out last years and it was okay. But this was more than we could imagine. Thousands have been forced from their homes. The water was up to here. I walked out and i was just like screaming. The worst of the flooding isnt over yet. Bottom line is is that its going to continue on. We need the whole community, not only the federal government forces, but this is a whole community effort. The countrys fourth largest city remains under water. With more heavy rain expected, the city could be soaked with up to 50 inches. This is a landmark event.
